The Cascade Center was established in 1991 to integrate the historical forest research program of the Andrews Experimental Forest with new forest management practices. The Cascade Center uses an adaptive management model to apply research findings and concepts in a management setting and the tools of science to address management questions, monitor the consequences of management actions, and exchange results with a wide array of audiences throughout the Pacific Northwest. A variety of learning opportunities are underway for natural resource managers, interest groups, and the general public.

The Cascade Center is managed jointly by Oregon State University, the Pacific Northwest Research Station, and the Willamette National Forest. Our projects are located primarily in the Central Cascades Adaptive Management Area, an administrative designation given by the Northwest Forest Plan to promote development and evaluation of alternative approaches to ecosystem management.
